Addressing Enforcement Issues

Many communities, both rural and urban, are adversely affected by drugs. With production and distribution of illegal drugs occurring, communities experience increased violence and crime rates. As a result, a disproportionate amount of law enforcement resources is dedicated to investigating drug-related crime.

It is vital that broad-based partnerships and community responses support development of safer, healthier communities.

In March 2005, Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Canada hosted a national workshop for police and policing partners (Police and Policing Partners: Supply Management and Demand Reduction).

In March 2009, the National Thematic Workshop for this priority was held. Participants discussed issues, explored best practices and identified needed research. A complete workshop report is available here.
